Well, today we travelled to Ash Ranges near Farnham for the SN Regional Event - my last as a W21 !! As I change age class in January to W35 (In orienteering we run in age classes at the bigger events and you change class on the 1st January of the year that you will be the next age class), so no more running against the 21 year olds, whom I can't keep up with anyway !!
Anyway, I decided to just go out and enjoy my run today, which I did. It was a lovely day and a nice area, despite some recent felling in some parts of it and I didn't make any large mistakes, a couple of smaller ones and a bit of faffing, but I did enjoy it !! At least I didn't mess up the first control, like some I know on my course !! I did recognise parts of it from having run there before 2 years ago, but not much - the ranges themselves were pretty obvious ! At least I didn't end up on the wrong one this time.
I used my Garmin Forerunner 305 again today too - I managed to remember to push the lap button at most of the controls, not 2 and 3 unfortunately, but I am hoping to be able to add those in using the SportTracks software. I haven't analysed it all yet either - have kind of vegged since we got home ! I need to learn how to import the data from the Forerunner onto a scanned map or into Routegadget, where available too, so I can see my actual route against the printed course on the map.
Am really pleased withe the Forerunner and pleased I asked for one with a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) too. I'm still getting used to using it though, but at least I'm remembering to start it when I start my course ! Straight after my run today I could start to analyse my splits - it showed me the distance between each, the time taken, my pace (average & fastest) and my heart rate. My max heart rate today was 189 and I actually ran a distance of 5kms on a 4.6kms course, so not too much deviation from the straight line. There are no results up on the SN website yet, so I don't know how I did overall on W21S, but I do know I was 10 minutes behind Laura, which isn't too bad as she's getting so fit now !
Update at 8pm - the results are now up and I was 5th today of 10 runners ! So quite pleased with that result for my last W21S ! I hope I can get some good results in W35L from January !
