Another Saturday morning in Preston Park in Brighton... this time I was there at a sensible time (09.30 instead of 08.20) and was just running, instead of setting things up.
This was the first of our Summer Park O events and the first time Mike and I had really orienteered since our respective injuries. It was a lovely morning to start with, warm and sunny, but it clouded over a bit and got quite chilly quickly.
We both had our ankles strapped up and were ready to go, I went off first and picked up my map after that start and headed off to control 1. As I hadn't done anything for so long and was aching from circuits on friday lunchtime, I did find it difficult to keep running all the time, but I did manage it, although not at a fast pace. Nick and Mike overtook me on the way to control 15.
The course was really good - it made you think, especially in the rose garden, where we had been warned not to jump or cross the flower beds at all. I know I lost time there, thinking about where I was and how was I going to get to the control I could see across flower beds.
There was a long leg, 22 to 23, which felt like a slog, but the rest of the course was really enjoyable and made you think all the way round. I was quite pleased with my result eventually, only 1min/km behind Anna & Jennie and nowhere near last !!
According to the Garmin I ran 4.16km on a course of 3.6km.
Bring on next Saturday !
