Back to Horsham Park again today, this time for the fourth in the Summer event series and we weren't helping at all !!! All looked to be under control and organised when we arrived and it was a lovely sunny morning. Such a difference to the weather yesterday...
We got ourselves organised, having handed over some kit to Neil, had a chat with several people and Mike went for his run. I saw him finish as I was waiting to start my run. We also saw several people run in various directions past the tent, which was fun.
I started after Neil again, Ian let me start a little early as we both knew I was not going to catch Neil up. Local knowledge definitely helped for the first two controls at least, as James found out. It was quite hot and sunny by this time and there were a few legs across the width of the park or the full length of the park almost... On the shorter, trickier legs I was ok, the longer ones got me a bit.
I was slowly catching Jane up too, then lost her after control 10. I hadn't realised she'd gone off the map and out of the park altogether !! She came racing past me again on the run into the finish....
We both sat on the wall, catching our breath and comparing notes about Jane's additional route choice and Mike wandered past us both, smiling. He was actually laughing at how exhausted we both looked...
James did the sprint course today too and did really well, for his second orienteering event. He's obviously quite a fast runner.
Disappointingly, due to the large turnout today, I was only 41st of 73 and only got 987 points. Jennie has now overtaken me for 2nd place behind Anna and if Julia runs more, she'll overtake all of us
Rob has added in an extra event on a Tuesday night though, so hopefully, there won't be such a large turnout and there could be some good points to be had.
